Watch The British Paraorchestra performing in Qatar, April 2014
Sasol have just released their film of The British Paraorchestra performing at Katara Opera House with the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra, April 2014
The British Paraorchestra gave a stunning performance at Katara Opera House, Qatar as part of the Sasol's Definitely Able initiative, designed to highlight the positive possibilities for people with disabilities. The concert was attended by The Minister of Culture, Arts and Heritage HE Hamad bin Abdulaziz al Kuwari and other dignitaries who were notably moved. The performance resulted in a standing ovation.
Collaborating for the first time with the Qatar Philharmonic, the performance was a culmination of a sponsored residency which involved a visit to Al Noor school for children with disabilities, alongside an impromptu performance during an evening visit to Souk Waqif.
Experimental performances of Corelli's La Follia, featuring the Paraorchestra playing variations between the string sections of the Philharmonic, followed by Charles Ives' 'The Unanswered Question' took the audience on a soaring musical odyssey.
Guest singer Raevennan Husbandes joined the Paraorchestra to give an exquisite performance of Wichita Lineman and A House is Not a Home, but the grand finale was the audience singalong to True Colors, which led to the house applauding on their feet. An incredible achievement and one which left everyone in The British Paraorchestra feeling a shared joy and profound sense of pride.
‘’It’s an amazing opportunity to make new friends for the Orchestra and its mission, which is to establish a new open-mindedness where virtuoso musicians with disability are no longer overlooked but are welcomed into the mainstream.''
