French Horn

Guy Llewellyn

I am absolutely delighted to join the British Paraorchestra and excited about all the potential collaborations and musical avenues to explore with such a diverse, and hugely talented ensemble.”

Guy is a T12 Paraplegic and has been in a wheelchair since 2010. His introduction to horn playing started at the age of 11 when he was asked to stop playing the trumpet and make up numbers in the depleted horn section of the school orchestra. Encouraged by this, Guy continued his horn studies to higher education, obtaining a degree in Music at Cambridgeshire College of Arts and Technology followed by an advanced performance course at the Royal College of Music in 1989.

After a taste of musical life in London, Guy settled in Cambridge where his playing has flourished with many musical organisations including the Cambridge University Musical Society, Cambridge Philharmonic Society, the Sinfonia of Cambridge and the East Anglian Chamber Orchestra.

Guy is also in demand as a soloist and recent performances include Mozart’s Horn Concerto No.4, Haydn’s Concerto for Two Horns, the Britten Serenade for Tenor and the Strauss Horn Concerto No.1. Chamber work includes solo horn performances and recordings with Prime Brass, which he co-founded in 1989.

Recent work has included performances of the Concertino for Horn and Wind Band by Marco Putz and appearing on the re-scored theme tune for a one-off ‘This Is Your Life’ TV special featuring Simon Cowell.  As a supporter of the Spinal Injuries Association, Guy was co-organiser of a ‘Grade-one-a-Thon’ which took place in January 2011 and raised over £90,000 for that cause.
